WHAT THE COMMUNITY IS SAYING:

Introducing a dual-language middle school in SE DC, where none currently exists, would be a monumental asset for both DCPS and the wider community. This initiative would attract and retain families, fostering greater diversity and inclusion. DCPS would strengthen its reputation and potentially inspire future dual-language educators. Simultaneously, this would address educational inequity in SE DC empowering the local community through enhanced educational opportunities, potential economic benefits, and the celebration of linguistic diversity. Such a school could serve as a community hub, fostering stronger family engagement and ultimately contributing to a more connected and harmonious city by bridging linguistic and cultural divides.

All students in DCPS should have access to quality programming, including dual-language opportunities. Students at schools like Houston and Chisholm should not be forced to travel upwards of an hour each way on public transportation in order to continue their dual-language education in middle school. Students in NW have access to dual-language middle schools close to home, and it's time for DC to step up and make that option available to students in SE and NE, as well.
